
ThinkingCAP's after-school programs consists of homework help, enrichment classes and play-based activities. We offer after-school programs. We work closely with stakeholders to customize programs according to their needs.
Activities and enrichment classes:
This class is taught by certified fitness trainers and former competitive gymnasts. It uses floor exercises and all compulsory gymnastic skill in 10 levels of progression. This class incorporates auditioning and acting scenes from movies and tv shows. This class teaches students presentation and public speaking skills and learning to work as a group with different skills and talents. Reading Road explores all directions to inspire children to love reading. Using the techniques of reading out loud and acting the characters in books to bring the the story alive and delve deeper into the plot. Students are taught drawing techniques to create their own cartoon characters and story lines. The class teaches drawing techniques, storyboarding and designing animations. Students also introduced to famous cartoonists such as Walt Disney and others. Students are taught the basics of chess moves and strategies. Chess is not only a fun and engaging game but also helps kids to think strategically, visually and enhances pattern recognition. This class teaches writing strategies that students will use throughout their lives. The activities will help participants develop skills essential to all types of writing. Students will learn flexibility and versatility which writers need to capture the attention of different audiences. This class teaches kids the importance of paying attention to details, asking questions and solving puzzles by introducing them to various mysteries. Kids will be given exhilarating crime solving exercises and a once a month mystery party! This class explores dance techniques from traditional American styles to international favorites. Ballroom, Swing, Hip Hop, Break, Ballet, Irish Step Dance, African Dance and Salsa will be among the genres explored. The class teaches students to become effective communicators as they learn to clearly present their ideas and connect with the audience. Students will be taught the importance of delivery, stance and physical gestures as well as using visual aids will be covered. Designed to make Math less intimidating, students are taught to breakdown Math problems and learn step by step problem solving techniques. Games are used to make math enjoyable involving geometry, patterns, numbers, puzzles, logic and probability. Using Disney themed warm ups and Kidz Bop driven aerobic exercises, students will improve motor skills and coordination while engaging in fun, active physical activities. Incorporating educational toys such as LEGOS, STRUCTURES and other kinetic building tools, kids are introduced to the basics of engineering and architecture. The students will create small scale projects individually and large scale group projects. This class teaches introduction to computer programming, web design and technology in a fun, supportive and engaging environment. Students will use the computer lab for access and progress through different levels. Students will learn how to deliver impromptu speeches, communicate clearly and engage in discussions. They will be taught breathing techniques, projections, pausing, pacing, movements, gestures and vocal projections. In this class, students will be taught how to turn trash into artistic treasure while learning about the importance of protecting the environment! Water bottles into vases, newspaper and cardboard into bowls and flowerpots and jewelry made of vintage buttons- the possibilities are endless. Using National Geographic Kids, the class will learn of the larger world we live in such as natural disasters, the human psyche, machines, continents, space and much more. Activities include interactive science experiments, designing architectures and games. Students be introduced to a different sport in three week rotations. Students will learn to work together in friendly competition, and what true sportsmanship is and to motivate themselves to become better athletes. Incorporating Ashtanga or Power Yoga, students are taught postures, poses and sun salutations. The class introduces children to the concept of mindfulness while learning to self-regulate their breathing and postures. Yoga mats are provided.
